General Information

For fall 2020, International Languages classes will take place in a secure, virtual environment, consisting of synchronous and asynchronous learning.

Weekend classes will return to in-person instruction in physical classrooms once is it deemed safe to do so. 

Weekday and lunchtime classes will continue online for the duration of the 2020-2021 school year. 

VIRTUAL CLASSES

Due to COVID-19, International Languages classes will take place in a secure, virtual environment consisting of:

• Synchronous learning – Engaging and interactive virtual, live class time with an IL instructor and fellow students (Google Meet or other interactive online applications) . 
• Asynchronous learning – Engaging activities provided by the IL instructor to be completed by the student online and off-line (assignments/projects, group work). 
• A combination of oral communication, reading and writing in the target language. 
• Inclusive practices that continue to be practiced through instructional strategies and communication with parents and students for an equitable and accessible environment.
• If a student would like to participate in more than one class (ex. both morning and afternoon), the second class must be in a different language or subject to non-funded status.
• As always, parent/guardian support is encouraged.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The International Language Program (ILP) is managed by Éducation permanente, CECCE, and mandated and funded by the Ministry of Education of Ontario.

The Elementary Program, Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8, offers programs in 16 different languages:

• Weekends from September to June
• During the week for students of certain CECCE schools
• Schedules will be tailored to age and grade levels.

All students are welcome regardless of their cultural and/or linguistic identity.

Online registration is ongoing throughout the school year!

All community components are managed separately from the ILP. Activities after classes and outside of the scope of the ILP may be subject to separate fees. Please contact the language school directly for more information.

ELIGIBILITY

• Students must turn 4 years old by December 31 to be eligible for ILP elementary classes. 
• Students must be registered in Junior Kindergarten up to Grade 8
  • Student in Grade 9 or older? Check out our high school language credit courses

HOW TO REGISTER

1. Have your documents ready before registering (see below for list of documents you’ll need). 

2. Submit your online registration form. 

3. For out-of-province and international students only: Complete the online payment for “out of province” students (Payment options: Visa, Visa Debit, Mastercard, American Express)

4. For all students who do not attend day school at CECCE (French Catholic school board) : Present your proof of residence as well as proof of status in Canada to an IL administrator at the beginning of the year. Further details to be shared with parents shortly.

• Free during virtual classes*
  • *Once classes return to physical classrooms, there will be a $10 / student / language activities and consumables fee

Out of province residents (Québec, international)

• $150 out-of-province fee / student / language

WHAT YOU NEED TO REGISTER

To include with the online registration (parent/guardian will be prompted) :

• Ontario report card (with legal name and OEN – Ontario Education Number) – for Ontario students in senior kindergarten to Grade 8; or
• Birth certificate – for students in Junior Kindergarten or those without an Ontario report card

In addition :

As per the Ontario Ministry of Education requirements, non-CECCE parents must demonstrate proof of the following for each child. Please present your proof of residence as well as proof of status in Canada to an IL administrator on-site on a predetermined date and location. Further details to be shared with parents shortly. 

• Proof of residence – Agreement of Purchase and Sale, Utility Bill, Property Tax, Home phone/Cable/Internet Bill, Bank/Credit Card Statement (Note: Driver’s License, health cards and cell phone bill are not accepted) 
• Proof of status in Canada – 
  • If the student is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident  – Must show proof of valid…
    • Canadian passport; 
    • Canadian birth certificate; 
    • Canadian baptismal certificate; 
    • Canadian permanent resident card (or other equivalency ex. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Stage 1 acceptance letter if application in progress)
  • If the student is a non-Canadian citizen – Parent/guardian must show proof of valid …
    • Canadian work permit;
    • Canadian Study permit (of student or of parent/legal guardian); 
    • Canadian Diplomat or Ministry permit (of student or parent/legal guardian); 
    • Refugee or asylum seeker confirmation or claim application (of student or parent/legal guardian); 
    • Visitor permit (of student)

Please note that if you registration is submitted after 5:00pm on Thursday, it may be subject to delay and will be processed the following week. Your teacher will be in touch then with further details about joining the course.
